Vehicle Tracker Installation for REV 3.5

Vehicle Tracker Installation for REV 3.5

**ATTENTION**
Please read the tracker installation manual before installing trackers.
*Tracker wire colors differ from other products.

Black Wire = Ground
White Wire = 12V Power
Red Wire = Ignition

Warnings

• Avoid installing tracker in direct sunlight.
• We strongly suggest NOT installing the tracker under the dashboard.
• Make sure that the tracker’s wire connections to the vehicle are tightly secured and fastened AND that all connections are clean and secure. We highly recommend soldering and insulating all connections.
• You will receive the tracker preassembled. Do not open the tracker as this will void the tracker’s warranty.

Installation Instructions

STEP 1:

Record the Tracker ID/Serial Number (Ex: 39432DAD in the picture below). This will be used to identify which tracker is associated with the vehicle in the Overview web portal. (Note: The serial number is to be recorded with a vehicle description and optionally you may also record the VIN in the record section provided at the end of this manual.)

STEP 2:

Find a location for the tracker in the cab of the vehicle where the best clear view of the sky can be achieved with a minimum impediment of metal between the tracker and the sky. The clear side of the tracker case should be accessible for viewing diagnostic LEDs and gaining access to the RJ45port. The RJ45 port is used to attach an external RFID receiver. An external RFID receiver may be required for “box” trucks, or large vehicles, where the box is metal between the cab of the vehicle and the box.

**We strongly suggest NOT installing the tracker under the dashboard. It will experience interference due to lack of clear view for GPS and Cellular coverage/signal.**

**The optimal location for the tracker is above the seatbelt column next to the shoulder of the driver.**

STEP 3:

Next, connect the tracker’s three leads into the vehicle; note that the tracker wires are colored according to the following chart.

Wire Color Information

White

Continuous 12V battery source.

Red

Switched ignition source.

Black

Ground

Using a voltmeter to ensure that the installation is correct, check the following three steps:

NOTE: If these three steps PASS and the LED lights show the proper activity as shown in Figure 5, then the tracker is installed and functioning properly.
  1. The BLACK tracker wire should be connected to a GROUND line, which should read (ohms) when measuring resistance from the ground line to another confirmed vehicle GROUND point.
  2. The RED tracker wire should be connected to an IGNITION line, which should read +12V (volts) when measuring voltage from the ignition line to ground with the IGNITION ON and 0V (volts) with the IGNITION OFF.
  3. The WHITE tracker wire should be connected to a full-time battery power line, which should read +12V (volts)when measuring voltage from the power line to ground with the IGNITION ON and with the IGNITION OFF.

STEP 4:

To test if the tracker has been properly wired and is working correctly, turn the ignition on. After approximately five minutes, the LEDs on the tracker should follow the description in the proper LED sequence chart below. These lights are labeled on the circuit board, and a diagram of the tracker is provided for reference. The last part of this step is to turn the ignition off.

IMPORTANT: Once the ignition is switched off, the green status LED should turn OFF right away and then back ON after 10 seconds. This confirms that the tracker’s ignition line has been connected to the vehicle’s ignition line.
Figure 5: Functioning tracker lights when tracker connected.

Cellular Light: This BLUE light turns off once there is a cellular connection.
GPS Light: This RED light turns off once the GPS fix has been received.
Error Light: When operating correctly, the AMBER light will blink every 4-5 seconds monitoring the tracker for issues.
Status Light: This GREEN light confirms the that the tracker has power. When ignition off is detected, it will turn off for 10 seconds before turning back on.
Tag Light: This GREEN light will flash when it detects a tag’s beacon from a tag on equipment. In the presence of many tags the light will flash rapidly.

STEP 5:

Mount the tracker so that the status LEDs are visible. Remember, the inline fuses should be out of the way, but easily accessible incase the system requires disabling or resetting. Record the mounting location and vehicle description and VIN for future reference in the provided note section at the end of the manual.

STEP 6:

The tracker has now been successfully installed; reassemble any vehicle parts removed during installation. After approximately ten minutes of ignition on and visible to outdoors and to open sky, the tracker will show up in the Overview portal.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Symptom

Solution

The tracker is not powering up (no LEDs are turning on).

Turn the vehicle on and check for loose or poor connections; also check for blown fuses.

The LEDs on a non-portable tracker remain on after 60 minutes have passed since ignition was turned off.

This means that the tracker's red ignition wire has been connected to the vehicle battery.  Follow the steps below to fix:

Disconnect the ignition wire and connect it to the vehicle's ignition wire.

Turn the ignition on.

Wait at least 10 seconds.

Turn ignition off and watch the green status LED go off immediately for 10 seconds before turning back on.

If the GREEN LED does not go off, the tracker ignition wire is still not connected to the vehicle's ignition wire.

The BLUE cellular LED stays solid and/or blinks.

This means that the tracker cannot get cell reception.

Follow the steps below if this occurs:

1.       Take the vehicle outside into clear skies.

2.       Disconnect power from the tracker by removing the 2 fuses connected to the white and red wires.

3.       Wait 30 seconds before re-inserting the 2 fuses.

4.       Turn the vehicle's ignition on.

5.    Wait up to 5 minutes for the cellular LED to turn off.

6.    If a cell connection is still not established, red Cellular LED stays solid and/or blinks, the installation area may not have adequate cell coverage.

7.    Contact Logikos Overview to determine cell network coverage.

The RED GPS LED stays solid.

This means that the tracker cannot acquire a GPS fix.

5.       Wait up to 5 minutes for the GPS LED to turn off.

The AMBER error LED stops blinking and stays solid.

The most frequent reason for this to stop blinking is tracker overheating.

If the tracker case is hot to the touch, move the tracker to an alternate location and allow to cool before retesting.

Follow the steps below if this occurs:

1.       Disconnect power from the tracker by removing the 2 fuses connected to the white and red wires.

2.       Wait 30 seconds before re-inserting the 2 fuses

The GREEN status light is blinking.

If the status light is blinking quickly, the vehicle battery is below 10V, but above 8V.

If the status light is blinking slowly, the vehicle battery is between 10V - 11V.

If either of these occurs, please check to make sure the vehicle's battery has the proper voltage.
