Equipment categories group your equipment into the kinds of things you actually manage, such as Air Movers, Dehumidifiers and Air Scrubbers. Once categories are set up, the Dashboard and the Equipment Location report break your counts down by category instead of lumping everything under "No Category".
1 Create Add your categories. | 2 Assign Give each asset type a category. | 3 Check Confirm the counts. | 4 Done Reports group by category. |
A category isn't assigned to each piece of equipment one at a time. It's assigned to an asset type, and every piece of equipment of that type picks it up automatically.
| Level | Example | What It Is |
|---|---|---|
| Asset | DH-014 | One physical piece of equipment with a tag. |
| Asset Type | LGR 7000 Dehumidifier | The make or model. Many assets share one type. |
| Category | Dehumidifier | The kind of equipment. Many asset types can share one category. |
NOTE Set a category once on an asset type and every asset of that type is counted in that category. If one asset type has 100 pieces of equipment, one change sorts all 100. |
TIP Keep the list short and use the words your team already uses. Ten clear categories are more useful than forty narrow ones. |
Skip this part if the category you need is already in the list.
From the left-hand menu, select Admin, then Asset Type Category. You'll see the categories you already have and how many asset types use each one.
Click the + (Add) button next to the page title. The Add Asset Type Category window opens.
The Save button stays grayed out until you enter a name.
Repeat for each category you need.
From the left-hand menu, select Admin, then Asset Type. The Category column shows which category each type has. A blank cell means no category yet.
TIP To see only the types that still need a category, click the funnel icon under Category, choose Is empty and click Apply. Then sort by Used By Asset(s) so you fix the types with the most equipment first. |
Click the row for the asset type, then click the pencil (Edit) button next to the page title. The Edit Asset Type window opens.
Click the Category drop-down and pick the category that fits. Leave the other fields as they are.
Click Save. The category now shows in that row's Category column. Repeat for each asset type.
IMPORTANT Only change the Category field. Changing Tracking Type or Presentation changes how that equipment is tracked and shown on the map. |
| To | Do This |
|---|---|
| Rename a category | On Asset Type Category, click the category row, click the pencil (Edit), change the name and click Save. Every asset type using it picks up the new name. |
| Move a type to another category | On Asset Type, edit the type and pick a different category. |
| Remove a category | On Asset Type Category, click the category row, then the trash can (Delete). |
TIP Before deleting a category, check its Used By Asset Type(s) count. If it isn't 0, move those asset types to another category first. |
